Srinagar: The government of Jammu and Kashmir has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each victim who lost their lives in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his deep sorrow and outrage over the heinous attack via a post on X, stating, "I am deeply shocked and saddened by the abhorrent terrorist act in Pahalgam yesterday. Such brutal violence against innocent civilians is unacceptable in our society. We condemn this act in the strongest terms and mourn the loss of these precious lives."
He acknowledged that no financial compensation could replace the loss of loved ones, but emphasized that this support is a gesture of solidarity from the government.
In addition to the compensation for the deceased, Abdullah announced Rs 2 lakh for those who sustained serious injuries and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
The chief minister assured that all necessary arrangements are being made to return the mortal remains of the deceased to their families with dignity.
"The injured are receiving the best possible medical care. Our thoughts are with the grieving families during this difficult time," Abdullah added.
The attack occurred at a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, primarily tourists, along with several others injured. Among the deceased were two foreign nationals from the UAE and Nepal, as well as two local residents.
"Terrorism will not deter our determination. We will not rest until those responsible for this atrocity are brought to justice," the chief minister concluded.
